Stephanie Salas
Stephanie Salas is a Mexican singer and actress. She was born Stephanie Salas Banquells on February 15, 1970, in Mexico City, Mexico. Her upbringing was steeped in show business, as she was the daughter of famous actress Silvia Pasquel and musician Micky Salas, who themselves come from a long lineage of performers. Stephanie Salas made her singing debut on a TV show at age 8, singing a duet with her mother. Soon, she started acting and singing onstage, performing in a production of Grease. Her star continued to rise as she starred in the popular soap novel Baila Conmigo, where she sang several of the show’s songs. In 1992, she released her debut album Ave María. The album was produced by Oscar López, and the title track “Ave María” quickly shot up the charts all over Mexico and Latin America. Her follow-up album La Raza Humana was a critical success and earned Stephanie Salas the prestigious Palmas de Oro award. In 1998, she released Un Mundo Una Esperanza, then took some time off music while continuing to act on television. In 2006, she made a comeback with the album Tuna, a collaboration with musician Pepe Acosta. In 2012, she released the album Soy Lo Que Soy, featuring a distinctly EDM and electro-pop-influenced sound.
