Tras Control en 2016, inmejorable concentrado de R&B y soul, Rosie Lowe vuelve a la carga con Yu. De título ambiguo, entre «You» y «Why You», este segundo trabajo gira alrededor del amor, elección temática en la que algo habrá tenido que ver la larga terapía de pareja emprendida en los últimos tiempos junto a su chico. Un disco donde la artista británica y su aterciopelada voz cuentan con mayor acompañamiento de sintetizadores y texturas electrónicas, sin dejar de tender a la calidez y al groove. Porque la vocalista londinense, originaria de Devon, tampoco reniega de su bagaje jazzístico, más bien al contrario. Así, Rosie Lowe dedica Pharoah al gran saxofonista Pharoah Sanders, sampleando el bajo y el órgano de Memories of Edith Johnson, pero recurriendo también a ciertos pasajes simbólicos del Libro de los muertos del antiguo Egipto, cultura que ha estudiado a fondo. Los invitados, importantes y de perfil variado, aportan unas sonoridades que van del rap experimental del ex de Erykah Badu, Jay Electronica, al electro-jazz de Floating Points, permitiendo a Lowe desplegar un soul tan fragoroso como sofisticado.
