Elijah es el hijo de Bono. Y Sian, la hija de The Edge. Ambos van cogidos de la mano en la portada de Song Of Experience. Dos «críos» que representan el mundo de 2017 y, sobre todo, la herencia que sus progenitores aspiran a dejarles… Grabado durante tres años con la colaboración de varios pesos pesados del ámbito de la producción, como Jacknife Lee, Ryan Tedder, Steve Lillywhite, Andy Barlow y Jolyon Thomas, este cuadragésimo álbum en estudio debe entenderse como emblema de unos tiempos de desorientación. A nadie le sorprenderá que la presidencia de Donald Trump o la crisis de los refugiados supongan un buen carburante para la inspiración de Bono, tan indignado como siempre, si bien el líder de U2 tiene el mérito de estar al menos muy informado de los numerosos conflictos planetarios. Pero aquí su punto de partida es diferente. Según ha explicado, se sintió impresionado por una conversación con el poeta Brendan Kennelly, quien le aconsejó escribir como si ya hubiera muerto. De este modo, Bono ha imaginado estos temas a manera de cartas enviadas a sus allegados, familia, amigos y fans, pero también a sí mismo. Como siempre, las sonoridades están dominadas por las magníficas y ochenteras guitarras de The Edge, de estilo intransferible, perteneciente ya a la historia del rock de finales del siglo XX. Con sus gestos de modernidad (ese Auto-Tune en Love Is All We Have Left, o la voz de Kendrick Lamar en Get Out Of Your Own Way) y una indiscutible calidad tanto vocal como instrumental, Songs Of Experience reúne argumentos de sobra para seguir enardeciendo a los fans de primera hora del cuarteto irlandés y para seducir al resto. © CM/Qobuz
