Asistido nuevamente por Jan Kybert, con quien ya había realizado Saturns Pattern en 2015, Weller sale en búsqueda de nuevas texturas sonoras tomando como punto de partida su amor por el soul, el folk y el rock de los sesenta pero reconfigurándolos de manera impredecible. Un atractivo híbrido de electrónica y R&B, On Sunset suena simultáneamente original y típico de Weller al combinar en partes iguales voluntad de experimentación con sus conocidas dotes de orfebre de la canción.
