Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy es la primera recopilación oficial de The Who y también una de las mejores. Lanzado originalmente en 1971, el disco cumplía un objetivo concreto: reunir los sencillos del grupo, muchos de los cuales no formaban parte de sus álbumes y constituyen un capítulo fundamental de la historia del rock. Si bien es cierto que The Who grabó varios discos magníficos durante los sesenta, escuchar su carrera resumida exclusivamente a través de sus sencillos ("My Generation", "I'm a Boy", "Substitute", todos clásicos incontestables) es una experiencia simplemente electrizante. Además, teniendo en cuenta que el sonido de The Who cambió notablemente después de Who's Next, Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy posee la ventaja de ser musicalmente mucho más homogénea que posteriores recopilaciones como Who's Better Who's Best.
