Cuando un músico viene de Luisiana, sus oídos siempre están bien entrenados. Siempre. Ya sea soul, blues, zydeco, rock, jazz, R&B, funk, pop, country, nadie de la zona de Nueva Orleans se preocupa nunca por etiquetas o géneros. Solo hay buena y mala música. Y punto. Brittany Guerin, alias Britti, es una prueba más de ello. Nacida en Baton Rouge, esta cantante, descubierta por Dan Auerbach de los Black Keys, domina todos los estilos que hacen vibrar el Sur con su groove único. Y con el clasicismo que Britti imprime a sus canciones, me vienen a la mente algunos de sus predecesores, igualmente clásicos. Diana Ross (Save Me) y Dolly Parton (Keep Running), pero también Norah Jones, Erykah Badu y Amy Winehouse (en una onda menos agresiva) están entre sus ídolos, y eso se percibe en su álbum de debut, Hello, I'm Britti, el título es una referencia obvia al álbum debut de Dolly Parton en 1967, Hello, I’m Dolly.
Se percibe, pero es algo que no frena su inspiración, estilo o personalidad. Auerbach, experto en equipos del siglo XX y sonidos vintage, es perfecto en la producción caracterizada por la cantidad justa de tonos sepia. Ha dotado a la cantante de un equipo excepcional, que incluye al bajista Nick Movshon (Amy Winehouse, Wu Tang Clan y una serie de álbumes con el sello Daptone), al batería Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant y Alison Krauss, Sharon Van Etten, Rhiannon Giddens), al guitarrista Tom Bukovac (Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks) y al mago de los teclados Mike Rojas (Ricky Skaggs, Yola, Miranda Lambert). Con el apoyo de este brillante elenco, Hello, I'm Britti pasa de viñetas conmovedoras a interludios de country pop y reflexiones de R&B con facilidad y cierta clase.
