En su concepto, esta enorme colección de 119 títulos es un documento esencial para entender el caso de Joni Mitchell. Al igual que su compatriota Neil Young con su serie Archives, la canadiense ha reunido en este Archives – Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967) sus primeras grabaciones en orden cronológico, la mayoría de ellas inéditas y anteriores a su primer álbum de 1968, Song to a Seagull: demos, grabaciones en directo y emisiones de radio entre 1963 y 1967, todas de buena calidad de sonido.
