Le son est ce qu'il est, c'est à dire sec comme un coup de trique, mais ce Falstaff reste absolument unique grâce à la direction survoltée et si théâtrale de l'illustre Maestro qui tient son monde d'une façon implacable et efficace. Giuseppe Valdengo possède un abattage et une personnalité que l'on aimerait rencontrer plus souvent aujourd'hui. Son Falstaff est truculent à souhait, avec une insolente santé vocale. Le trio Alice, Meg et Nannetta (la jeune Teresa Stich-Randall) est tout simplement délicieux. C'est LE Falstaff de l'histoire du disque pourtant enregistré lors d'un concert radio à New York en 1950. Mais le miracle est toujours là plus d'un demi-siècle après et personne ne l'a jamais égalé. FH

Chronique

Le son est ce qu'il est, c'est à dire sec comme un coup de trique, mais ce Falstaff reste absolument unique grâce à la direction survoltée et si théâtrale de l'illustre Maestro qui tient son monde d'une façon implacable et efficace. Giuseppe Valdengo possède un abattage et une personnalité que l'on aimerait rencontrer plus souvent aujourd'hui. Son Falstaff est truculent à souhait, avec une insolente santé vocale. Le trio Alice, Meg et Nannetta (la jeune Teresa Stich-Randall) est tout simplement délicieux. C'est LE Falstaff de l'histoire du disque pourtant enregistré lors d'un concert radio à New York en 1950. Mais le miracle est toujours là plus d'un demi-siècle après et personne ne l'a jamais égalé. FH
