Voici un album fantastique de bout en bout. Derrière le titre de ce cinquième Young Thug, Punk, se cache en fait un étalage savoureux de la science mélodique de son protagoniste. On le sait, le rappeur originaire d’Atlanta est parvenu à amener une sensibilité folle dans la trap, quitte à être parfois accusé de trahir le genre. Mais en écoutant cet album, force est de constater qu’il fait avancer les choses à pas de géant. Punk a quelque chose de constamment vaporeux, et est marqué par l’influence de son beatmaker principal, Charlie Handsome. Un disque basé sur les guitares, les arpèges de piano et la profondeur des boîtes à rythme, qui donne l'occasion au grand Metro Boomin de produire une ballade telle que Stupid/Asking, ou Kanye West et Pi’erre Bourne envoyer l’instru synthétique et chaotique de Rich Nigga Shit. C’est d’ailleurs sur ce titre que Young Thug fait revenir Juice WRLD d’entre les morts, comme il le fait sur Day Before, dernier morceau de la tracklist enregistré avec Mac Miller la veille de son décès.
