C’est un Sardou dépolitisé, apaisé et voyageur que nous propose la chanson-titre de cet album, rêvant d’une Irlande fantasmée. En binôme avec le mémorable « Être une femme » (« Femme des années 80 / Mais femme jusqu'au bout des seins » !) « Les Lacs du Connemara » constitue sans doute l’un des sommets du Michel Sardou des années 1980, qui ne renonce pas au commentaire des faits de société (« Les Mamans qui s’en vont », consacré au divorce) mais aborde les problématiques avec recul et sensibilité. Si l’on peut regretter le côté parfois explosif du Sardou des années 70, ce nouvel avatar demeure d’une qualité artistique irréprochable, malgré des sonorités un peu datées.
