Alors qu’Oxymoron avait déjà secoué les foules en 2014, ScHoolboy Q remet ça avec Blank Face LP et s’impose comme l’un des rappeurs les plus sérieux du moment. Après les réussites de Compton (Dr. Dre) ou de To Pimp A Butterfly (Kendrick Lamar), ScHoolboy Q surfe sur la tendance que tendent à instaurer les rappeurs angelinos : beaucoup de featurings et un retour au gangsta rap. Pourtant, le MC nous livre ici un opus qui prend des airs de nouvelle. La structure de Blank Face LP a été rondement bien pensée et chaque chanson prend la forme de chapitre racontant une histoire, décrivant un portrait… Anderson .Paak, Tyler The Creator, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West… Difficile de faire plus complet et plus efficace. Tous les grands du moment ont répondu présents pour l’appel du Q. La couleur des productions varie d’une chanson à l’autre, allant de la soul (Lord Have Mercy) à de la trap plutôt énervée (THat Part). Rien n’est à mettre de côté sur ce Blank Face LP et ses 17 compositions méritent plusieurs écoutes. Los Angeles est décidemment particulièrement affûtée en termes de hip hop et ses rappeurs portent haut les couleurs de la pieuvre californienne. © AR/Qobuz
