Stereopony
Stereopony were an all-girl pop rock band from Okinawa, Japan. Founded in 2007 by singer and guitarist Aimi Haraguni, bassist Nohana Kitajima, and drummer Shiho Yamanoha, the band started playing as Mixbox before changing their name to Stereopony and making their official debut with the single “Hitohira no Hanabira” in 2008. The song, which gained traction thanks to its inclusion in the anime series Bleach, reached Number 25 on the Oricon charts and finished second in Rocochoku's Newcomer Competition. Both their debut single and the singles “Namida no Mukō” and “I Do It” with singer Yui were included in their first full-length Hydrangea ga Saiteiru. Released shortly after the band’s first appearance at the SXSW 2009 festival, the album peaked at Number 7 in Japan and spawned the national tour A Hydrangea Blooms. Preceded by the Top 10 single “Tsukiakari no Michishirube,” which served as the opening theme for the anime series Darker than Black: Ryūsei no Gemini, a second album titled Over the Border saw the light in 2010 via Sony Music and hit Number 12 on the Oricon Albums Chart. After issuing the LP More! More!! More!!! (2011), Stereopony took a short break from their schedule after Haraguni’s throat polyp surgery in 2012. However, they decided to call it quits soon after that. That same year, they also issued a greatest hits collection under the name Best of Stereopony.
