Little Claw

An experimental noise-punk band with a disarming acoustic side, Little Claw began in Detroit in 2003, when Kilynn Lunsford and Heath Heemsbergen began singing and playing their acoustic guitars during that summer’s Eastern Seaboard blackout. After recruiting the Piranhas’ Jamie Easter on drums, the trio began playing live and recording, gigging with bands including the Bizarros and making their first album, 2005’s Moss Has Fangs, with His Name is Alive’s Warn Defever. Hendrik Deherder took over drums duty in 2006, in time to record Spit and Squalor Swallow the Snow with the band in Matthew Smith (Outrageous Cherry)’s living room; the album was released as a limited-edition vinyl LP by Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace! imprint. After releasing a split single with Michael Yonkers, Little Claw moved to Portland, OR in 2007 and added Adam Svenson on drums, moving Deherder to keyboards and percussion; Tyvek’s Damon Sturdivant also joined the group as an auxiliary member, contributing additional percussion and synth to live shows and recording sessions. Another single on Physical Sewer Records preceded Little Claw’s third album, Human Taste, which appeared on Ecstatic Peace! in 2009. The Race to the Bottom single was also released that year via Siltbreeze.
