Songwriter and producer Lil Aaron blurs the lines between rap, pop, trap, emo, and punk to create his uniquely off-kilter approach to music. In addition to releasing a slew of EPs -- both solo and as part of the alternative hip-hop crew Boyfriendz -- he also pens tunes for artists such as Liam Payne, Icona Pop, Lizzo, and Blackbear.
Aaron Jennings Puckett entered the world in 1994, born in Indiana to a Christian family who prohibited secular music; regardless, he was able to discover music through the Internet, where he stumbled across the emo and punk bands that formed his entry point into popular music. As his tastes changed, he gravitated toward rap music, specifically the growing number of independent artists who were posting their music online. Eventually Aaron decided to act on his passion; he dropped out of school, moved to Los Angeles, and started work as a songwriter. Early in his career, he worked alongside a variety of artists, including Icona Pop, D.R.A.M., Travis Mills, and Kiiara before realizing that he wanted to perform some of the songs he was writing himself. At the beginning of 2017, he released his first track, "Damn," alongside producer/DJ Y2K; that same year, he followed up with his debut EP, Gloing Pain$. Later, he joined Smrtdeath and Lil Lotus to form Boyfriendz. The trio issued their self-titled EP that December.
Aaron went on to release a solo EP each year, including 2017's Rock$tar Famou$ (which featured Travis Barker on "Quit"), 2019's Dark Matter, and 2020's 808 Rock. In between, Boyfriendz issued a sophomore effort, BFZ2, in February 2019. Of his almost dozen collaborative tracks during those years, he teamed with pop star Kim Petras on "Faded" and "Homework," as well as bounce queen Big Freedia on "GTFOMF." In 2021, Aaron teamed with Ethel Cain for "Michelle Pfeiffer."
