Kind Folk
A collective improvisational quartet, Kind Folk are known for their egoless, exploratory modern creative jazz. The group earned buzz for their critically lauded 2018 debut album, Why Not, and returned in 2022 with Head Towards the Center.
Named after a song by the late trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, Kind Folk formed in 2014 in New York City, bringing together the talents of trumpeter/flügelhornist John Raymond, alto saxophonist Alex LoRe, bassist Noam Wiesenberg, and drummer Colin Stranahan. Each member has deep roots in the jazz and creative music scene. The group developed their sound organically at jam sessions in Brooklyn, followed by live shows around New York. All of this led up to the release of their 2018 debut LP, Why Not, on Fresh Sound Records.
Over the next few years, however, the band's work was postponed as Raymond took the position of Professor of Jazz Trumpet at Indiana University and Stranahan moved back to his hometown of Denver. They eventually found time to reconnect and in 2022 released their sophomore album, the avant-garde-leaning Head Towards the Center.
