Iskra

Formed in 1971 in Stockholm, Sweden, Iskra was an experimental and improvisational jazz and world music combo. They eventually evolved into a renowned experimental band embraced by fans of progressive rock. The band was comprised of core members Sune Spångberg (percussion), Arvid Uggla (bass, tuba, violin), Jörgen Adolfsson (saxophone, guitar, flute), and Tuomo Haapala (bass, violin, trumpet). The band also featured Allan Olsson (saxophone, guitar, violin, oboe), who co-founded Iskra but passed away in 1989. For the first two years, the band built a following while frequently performing at Stockholm’s Teater 9. They released their first album, Jazz I Sverige ’75, in 1975 and followed that two years later with Allemansrätt. In 1979, Iskra released their third album Besvårjelser. The band’s next album, Fantasies, was issued in 1983. After a seven year break, the band returned in 1990 with the album Luft. In 2012, they released the album Liberté Égalité Humanité, which had been recorded in Stockholm on November 1, 2003.
