Ila Arun

Ila Arun (March 15, 1954) is an Indian actress and playback singer from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Ever since she made her singing debut in the early 1980s, she has become one of the most celebrated female playback singers in the industry, reaching the pinnacle of her popularity in the 1990s with the song "Choli Ke Peeche," featured on the soundtrack of the 1993 Hindi crime thriller Khalnayak. Besides exposing her to a much wider audience, the track also earned her a Filmfare award for Best Female Playback Singer later that year. This success was followed by other hits like "Ghup Chup" from Karan Arjun (1995) and the A.R. Rahman-penned Tamil song "Muthu Muthu Mazhai" from Mr. Romeo (1998). Almost a decade later, Ila Arun and the famed Indian composer joined forces once again on the track "Ringa Ringa" (2008), one of the songs from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. Apart from her contributions to Indian cinema, she has also released the folk-pop solo albums Bombay Girl (1994) and Vote for Ghagra (1995), and starred in the films Jodhaa Akbar (2008) and Raat Akeli Hai (2020). In 2022, a reworking of her 1995 hit "Ghup Chup" titled "Gup Chup Gup Chup" entered the Indian Top 100 at Number 53.
