Honey Ltd.
All-female vocal ensemble Honey Ltd. formed in Detroit in 1967 while the members were attending Wayne State University. Originally going by the name the Mama Cats, the group included Laura Polkinghome, Marsha Jo Temmer, and sisters Joan and Alexandra Sliwin. Shows backing Bob Seger helped raise the band's profile, and in 1968 they moved to Los Angeles to record an album with legendary singer/songwriter Lee Hazlewood. Hazlewood renamed the group Honey Ltd. and produced the band's debut album, which featured musical backing via the Wrecking Crew. Despite the album's commercial failure, Honey Ltd. continued working, joining Bob Hope's USO tour in Thailand. By 1969, with Alexandra Sliwin's marriage and subsequent departure, and the band's contract with Hazlewood coming to a close, Honey Ltd. called it a day. After breaking up, Polkinghome, Temmer, and Joan Sliwin briefly re-formed as the country-rock trio Eve, who also recorded for Hazlewood.
