Georges Ulmer
Born Jørgen Frederik Ulmer on February 16, 1919 in Copenhagen (Denmark), and died on September 29, 1989 in Marseille (France), Georges Ulmer was a Danish actor and singer. He grew up in Spain, where he began his career composing for the cinema. In 1946, he launched one of his biggest hits, with the song "Pigalle", which he co-wrote with Géo Koger and composed the music with the help of Guy Luypaërts. On its release, the song was banned from the radio because of some of its lyrics. Over time, it is covered by a number of artists, including Colette Renard, Paul Anka, Petula Clark and Tino Rossi. He continued his musical career with other successful songs, including "Ma Voiture contre une Jeep", "Quand allons-nous nous marier? and "Un Monsieur attendait". From 1950 to 1963, he acted in several French, Spanish, Italian and Mexican films. He also recorded a number of duets, notably with Arletty in 1959 for "Viens, viens Mad'leine" , and with Mick Micheyl in 1972 for "C'est un au-revoir ". He also hosted a number of galas, including one at the Marché International du Disque et de l'Édition Musicale in January 1970 with Brazilian singer Eliana Pittman.
