Fancy Hagood

Fancy Hagood is the working stage name of Nashville-based singer/songwriter Jake Hagood, aka Who Is Fancy. The subject of an enigmatic social marketing campaign, Who Is Fancy was the name attributed to the Top 30 single "Goodbye," which appeared online and was released to radio stations in early 2015. He released his debut full-length effort, Southern Curiosity, in 2021 under the Fancy Hagood moniker. A native of Bentonville, Arkansas, Hagood had worked as a songwriter in Nashville for several years before releasing "Goodbye." A slick, midtempo breakup anthem featuring a yearning, R&B-infused male vocal melody, the song was released on Universal and the Nashville-based music group Big Machine. It peaked at number 29 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart. Various online sources named Hagood as the artist behind "Goodbye," primarily because Fancy Hagood was credited as its songwriter along with Jesse Frasure and Steph Jones. Finally, in April 2015, Hagood appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon; revealing himself as the artist behind Who Is Fancy. The following year saw Hagood collaborate with Meghan Trainor and Ariana Grande on the song "Boys Like You." Unable to capitalize on the success of "Goodbye," Hagood parted ways with his label and longtime manager Scooter Braun. Renaming himself Fancy Hagood and embracing his deep connection to the LGBTQ+ community, he began releasing a string of largely autobiographical singles, including "The Forest" and "Southern Curiosity." His debut long-player, also titled Southern Curiosity, was released independently in 2021.
