CURTIS YOUNG
Vocalist, bassist, and guitarist Curtis Young has earned the name "Mr. Harmony" from many of those in the music world. A Tennessee native, Young landed his first real music job around 1960, appearing on Knoxville's Tennessee Barn Dance. To support himself during those early years, he worked as a cameraman for a local television station. He also became lead singer for a band known as the Kountry Kings, performing with the group on the weekends.
Young started the '70s off in Nashville. He found work as a singer and bassist for the Coopers and then moved into session work. His skills with the bass, guitar, and vocals landed him gig after gig. Wanting more, he tried commercials for television and radio and then cut a demo theme song for the movie Jory, starring Robby Benson and John Marley. In 1979 Young became a member of the Willis Trio. He held his position as lead singer for the Grand Ole Opry group until the mid-'80s. In 1984 he landed the roll as a lead guitarist in a movie about Patsy Cline's life called Sweet Dreams.
The '90s brought a new spin to Young's career -- he went solo. He completed a few albums, including Smoky Mountain Love Songs, If You Love Me, Just Friends, and Only One Way. Some of the familiar country tunes fans will find on his recordings are "Gentle on My Mind," "Mr. Bojangles," "All I Have to Do Is Dream," and "That's the Way Love Goes." During his long career Young has worked with artists like Chet Atkins, John Anderson, Gary Allan, and many more. Young has been selected as the Number One Vocalist of the Year more than five times, and for performing on nearly a 100 Top Ten albums over the years, he was named as one of the Top Ten Album All-Stars by Music Row Magazine.
