Beaches
The neo-psych indie rock group Beaches were formed in Melbourne, Australia and released their first LP in 2008 for Mistletone Records. Antonia Sellbach (guitar/vocals), Alison Bolger (guitar/vocals), Ali McCann (guitar/vocals), Gill Tucker (bass/vocals), and Karla Way (drums/vocals) draw inspiration from '60s psych pop, '90s shoegaze, Flying Nun dream pop, and German drone rock. The album made the short list for the Australian Music Prize and launched the band's career. They toured the U.S. twice, played All Tomorrow's Parties in 2009, and released an EP, Eternal Sphere, for Mexican Summer in 2010. The group's second album, She Beats, which featured guitar work from Neu!'s Michael Rother, was released by Chapter Records in 2013. Beaches took their time on the next album, jamming and honing songs at their rehearsal space in Melbourne over the next few years. The results of their labors saw the light of day in September of 2017, when the 17-track Second of Spring was issued by Chapter.
