AJ Lambert

A vocalist with warm, articulate delivery that negotiates jazz-, synth pop-, and indie rock-styled arrangements with relative ease, AJ Lambert made her solo debut after spending over 20 years in bands including Looker, among other industry roles. Her first LP, Careful You, was a covers album issued in 2019. The daughter of Nancy and granddaughter of Frank Sinatra, New York City native Angela Jennifer "A.J." Lambert played bass for a variety of bands in the '90s and early 2000s before co-forming the early punk/new wave revival band Looker in 2003. She and her bandmates -- guitarists Boshra Al Saadi (TEEN) and Nicole Greco and drummer Robbie Overbey -- self-released Born Too Late in 2007, following it a year later with Born in the Desert on Serious Business Records. Over the course of the next decade, Lambert worked as a film music supervisor and played bass for acts spanning Here We Go Magic and a reunited version of the Homosexuals, eventually deciding to take the lead and record solo. In 2016, she released a collaborative EP with pianist John Boswell and Protomartyr guitarist Greg Ahee titled Lonely Songs, a tribute to the Frank Sinatra album Only the Lonely. The EP was recorded live at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio in Chicago and mixed by Chris Koltay (Xiu Xiu, Frontier Ruckus). A selection of covers handpicked by Lambert, her debut album, Careful You, included her takes on artists including John Cale, Chris Bell, and Spoon, as well as updated versions of songs her grandfather performed, such as "I'll Be Seeing You." Produced by Al Saadi and Daniel Schlett and recorded with musicians including Stuart Bogie (Superhuman Happiness, Antibalas), Parker Kindred (Antony and the Johnsons, Here We Go Magic), and Eliot Krimsky (Flying, Glass Ghost), it was released by the Alpha Pup label in early 2019.
