Da Neil Young, la scoperta di un ennesimo gioiello. Con Young Shakespeare, uscito pochi giorni fa, il Loner riporta alla luce uno splendido concerto registrato allo Shakespeare Theater di Stratford, Connecticut, il 22 gennaio 1971, quindi tre giorni dopo un altro album dal vivo documentato nell'imperdibile Live at Massey Hall 1971, pubblicato nel 2007. Spettacoli che facevano parte del suo Journey Through the Past Solo Tour. Sulla sua pagina web, il vecchio bisonte canadese non esita a dichiarare che questo Young Shakespeare è superiore al Massey Hall, trovandolo più tranquillo e meno esuberante, essendo stato registrato in un luogo meno prestigioso del Massey Hall. Per Neil Young, sarebbe “il migliore di tutti i tempi, un concerto che ha definito quell'epoca”. Un'osservazione più che condivisibile, poiché i temi delle canzoni trattano i sogni e i timori della sua generazione (allora aveva 26 anni). Anche la qualità della tracklist contribuisce a rendere unico questo Young Shakespeare, basta scorrere i titoli per avere immediatamente la pelle d'oca: Tell Me Why, Old Man, The Needle and the Damage Done, Ohio, Dance Dance Dance, Cowgirl in the Sand, A Man Needs a Maid/Heart of Gold, Journey Through the Past, Don’t Let It Bring You Down, Helpless, Down by the River e Sugar Mountain - brani che sono caratterizzati dalla chitarra o dal piano di un Neil Young che canta alla perfezione.
