Piet Blank and Jaspa Jones, stars of the German trance scene, are back with the third volume of #WhatWeDoAtNight, a series they launched in 2017. Conceptualists, Blank & Jones have nourished fans for the past 20 years with albums like Relax and Milchbar – Seaside Compilations. Here, they return to club scene with a collection of eight rather short but clearly dancefloor-oriented tracks. Though the record begins with the rather calm The Beach, which is perhaps a nod to their frequent stays on Norderney Island in the North Sea, the two Germans soon switch to the familiar trance sound where they made their name. On Storm, Lush and Equator, are three tracks characterised by hyper 90’s synths, heavy bass and rolling drums. This is a more chilled take on trance, with more elements of electronica, but it’s still unbelievably danceable. The rhythm accelerates across the album, with Thunder possessing an energy that will likely make it a hit in Ibiza next summer. This album will take you on a night-time trip full of nostalgia and euphoria. Best listened to with your eyes closed and the curtains drawn. © Smael Bouaici/Qobuz
