Secondo album omonimo, Fleetwood Mac permette di ridefinire, nel 1975, un’identità in pieno mutamento. Tutto è cambiato da quello degli inizi, uscito sette anni prima. Il gruppo inglese ha perso tre chitarristi. Peter Green, pura essenza blues, annebbiato dal LSD e disgustato dal denaro, ha disertato. Jeremy Spencer è volato in cielo e il giovanissimo Danny Kirwan è stato cacciato per problemi di alcool e mentali. Rimangono allora solo più Fleetwood e McVie. Mick Fleetwood trova, in California, la coppia Lindsey Buckingham e Stevie Nicks, mentre John McVie mette la sua futura moglie alle tastiere. Dal blues inglese nato sulle ceneri dei Bluesbreakers, i Fleetwood Mac, al comandi di Nicks e Buckingham, passano al rock timbrato “FM” californiano. Le radio mainstream non hanno mai ricevuto un’energia così positiva. Prima di Rumours, che travolgerà una generazione, si capisce già quello che li spingerà ai vertici delle classifiche: la sensualità fuori di testa di Nicks in Rhiannon, la leadership di Buckingham che emerge in I’m So Afraid, il pop edulcorato di Over My Head e Say You Love Me. Secondo album omonimo, Fleetwood Mac permette di ridefinire, nel 1975, un’identità in pieno mutamento. Tutto è cambiato da quello degli inizi, uscito sette anni prima. Il gruppo inglese ha perso tre chitarristi. Peter Green, pura essenza blues, annebbiato dal LSD e disgustato dal denaro, ha disertato. Jeremy Spencer è volato in cielo e il giovanissimo Danny Kirwan è stato cacciato per problemi di alcool e mentali. Rimangono allora solo più Fleetwood e McVie. Mick Fleetwood trova, in California, la coppia Lindsey Buckingham e Stevie Nicks, mentre John McVie mette la sua futura moglie alle tastiere. Dal blues inglese nato sulle ceneri dei Bluesbreakers, i Fleetwood Mac, al comandi di Nicks e Buckingham, passano al rock timbrato “FM” californiano. Le radio mainstream non hanno mai ricevuto un’energia così positiva. Prima di Rumours, che travolgerà una generazione, si capisce già quello che li spingerà ai vertici delle classifiche: la sensualità fuori di testa di Nicks in Rhiannon, la leadership di Buckingham che emerge in I’m So Afraid, il pop edulcorato di Over My Head e Say You Love Me.
