Dopo essere stata la principessa di Nashville e poi la regina del pop mondiale, Taylor Swift è forse diventata la dea dell’indie folk? Obbligata dal confinamento, con mezzi ridotti e un cast stringato, nell’estate 2020 ha pubblicato Folklore. Un album prodotto da Aaron Dessner dei The National su cui ha duettato con Justin Vernon dei Bon Iver. Privo hit pop, beat massicci e caratterizzato da una strumentazione molto sobria (che mescola pianoforte, chitarra acustica, mellotron, mandolino e slide), è un vero e proprio album folk. Appena cinque mesi dopo, Evermore ha tutti gli aspetti del sequel del sopracitato Folklore, o del suo album gemello. Tanto più che sono nuovamente presenti sia Bon Iver che The National. Mentre le Haim e Marcus Mumford dei Mumford & Sons vanno ad aggiungersi alla lista di ospiti di classe. Taylor Swift mantiene indosso l’abito da cantastorie folk-pop, ed è più introspettiva che mai. Le sue canzoni sono una precisa fusione di fatti reali e fantasiosi sogni ad occhi aperti. Ovviamente, questo album non ha avuto lo stesso effetto sorpresa del precedente. Ma questo non ha impedito alla star di scrivere testi impegnati e forti, con argomenti che spaziano dalla vita come celebrità (Gold Rush e Dorothea), a temi come la separazione (Happiness) o come il tramonto di un amore (Tollerate It). Dice di aver trascorso il 2020 scrivendo, scrivendo, scrivendo, e la sua penna si è chiaramente rafforzata. Non tutte le sue canzoni sono dello stesso calibro e Folklore rimane generalmente superiore. Ma nel complesso, tutte queste registrazioni del 2020 l’hanno catapultata in un altro universo. L’affascinante business artigianale che Taylor Swift gestisce è riuscito a scuotere i canoni del pop, rendendoli ancora più personali ed universali.
