Ci sono due grandi storie dietro il terzo album di 50 Cent, Curtis. Innanzitutto, c'è la promessa che ha fatto che avrebbe venduto più di Kanye West – che stava realizzando il suo album Graduation contemporaneamente a Curtis – altrimenti si sarebbe ritirato. Secondo, c'è il titolo originale dell'album, Before I Self Destruct, adatto a rappresentare un lunatico primo piano di 50 sulla copertina. Citare l'autodistruzione sarebbe stato un errore grossolano per definire un album full-length che ripetutamente impiega la comprovata formula di 50 Cent –estrema compiacenza del pubblico, carisma da macho, un tratto di controversia e un po' di furbizia. Alla fine, Curtis riesce a intrattenere, ma è straordinario solo nel dimostrare che 50 è ancora lì, in cima.
