Christopher Hogwood produced a pioneering work when, in 1983, he recorded the Suites for Harpsichord by Louis Couperin for the first time. The style and instrumental execution have clearly evolved since these distant times, but the album still holds the pleasure of discovery. With the harpsichord, Christopher Hogwood prioritises the lyricism of these pieces by accentuating the profound melancholy which emanates from them. With great fluidity and poeticism, he provides proof of his perfect knowledge of French music from this period. Christopher Hogwood worked on the harpsichord in Paris with Colombian Rafael Puyana, then in Prague with the great harpsichordist Zuzana Růžičková, before becoming a disciple to Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam in 1968. © François Hudry/Qobuz
