Comme leurs cousins américains de Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall voire (feu) Jay Reatard, les Australiens de King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard enregistrent comme d’autres vont acheter une baguette ou des clopes… Résultat, le combo garage psyché tenu en laisse par Stuart McKenzie aligne déjà une dizaine d’albums en seulement un septennat d’existence ! Découpé en trois chapitres (on prend sa respiration : The Tale Of The Altered Beast, The Lord Of Lightning Vs. Balrog et Han-Tyumi And The Murder Of The Universe), Murder Of The Universe est l’instantané parfait de leur folie rock’n’roll et de leur éclectisme incontrôlable, le tout emballé dans un concept-album mêlant apocalypse, heroic fantasy et SF. Tout y passe ! Du rock garage évidemment, souvent psychédélique, éventuellement hypnotique comme du krautrock, cataclysmique comme du métal et occasionnellement bavard comme du progressif… Même si ce genre d’orgie électrique prend évidemment une toute autre dimension sur scène, force est de reconnaître que cette livraison de l’été 2017 peut aussi s’apprécier dans son salon, bien enfoncé dans son canapé, éclairé de préférence par une lampe lava… © MD/Qobuz
