The Black Keys ont mis le cap sur le légendaire studio Muscle Shoals pour enregistrer eux-mêmes leur sixième album intitulé Brothers. Le studio, sans parler de la pochette, indique clairement que le groupe de blues abrupt des premiers disques des Black Keys est de retour, mais qu’ils n’ont pas oublié ce qu’ils ont appris durant l’intermède de leur incursion dans le psychédélique. Brothers présente encore quelques aspects hallucinés, mais l’album est fait de sang et de crasse, aussi ses moments les plus déchaînés restent-ils rocailleux, sans être terre à terre. Du point de vue du son, cette immensité éraflée (l’espace créé par les guitares baveuses et le déphasage, les claviers analogiques et la batterie caverneuse) est terriblement séduisante, mais le principal atout de Black Keys reste l’exceptionnelle qualité des compositions.
