S’il n’a jamais atteint l’aura d’autres groupes emblématiques de la britpop, Shed Seven a néanmoins su gagner le respect de fans exigeants grâce à des singles réussis, tels que « Dolphin », « Speakeasy » ou « Getting Better ». Séparé en 2003, le groupe s’est reformé pour donner des concerts et enfanter l’inespéré Instant Pleasures, paru en 2017, seize ans après Truth to Be Told. Rien ne laissait présager un nouveau disque, qui arrive pourtant sous la forme de douze titres enlevés pour lequel le groupe a collaboré avec Rowetta (Happy Mondays), Laura McClure (Reverend And The Makers) et Peter Doherty. De l’imparable titre d’ouverture pop punk « Let’s Go » à l’impeccable ballade « Let’s Go Dancing », en passant par le brillant « Kissing California », avec ses guitares ciselées ou encore un titre de clôture réussi, « Throwaways » (avec Pete Doherty), A Matter Of Time sonne comme une véritable masterclass pop. Mentions particulières aux titres « In Ecstasy », avec Rowetta et « Real Love », parfaitement pensée pour offrir aux stades des refrains à reprendre en chœur.
