This third album of smooth, slow-burning electronic indie pop from the Belgian artist Max Colombie, follows 2017's Infinity. The Shimmer's title is inspired by Alex Garland's 2018's sci-fi film Annihilation, but also accurately describes the production here, which contrasts intense, murky tones with bright, shining passages. The lead singles, "Livestream," "James," and "Oliver" are included, the latter of which strives for a moody, sun-drenched mid- to late-'80s radio-friendly sound.
