Miles Davis bezeichnete ihn öffentlich als Verrückten. Leonhard Bernstein hingegen empfand ihn als schlichtweg genial. So gut wie niemand hatte keine eindeutige Ansicht über Ornette Coleman. Der amerikanische Saxofonist, eine Art Gesetzesloser, der es vorzog, seine eigenen Kompositionen zu spielen als Jazzstandards, war ebenfalls Erfinder der Harmolodie-Theorie, welche Harmonie und Melodie vereint. Eine aus 10 Alben bestehende Box bestehend fasst jetzt eine der wichtigsten Perioden des Musikers zusammen. Zwischen 1959 und 1961 veröffentlichte er sechs Studioalben unter dem Label Atlantic. Sechs davon werden bereichert durch Alternative Takes und diversen Bonustracks, das Ganze natürlich einwandfrei remastert von John Webber.
