Behind this improbable nickname of Melody’s Echo Chamber hides the French Melody Prochet, who has a strong liking for psychedelia and a rather natural melodic gift. To transform her craziest dreams on her first album released in 2012, she asked for the help of Kevin Parker, the mastermind of Tame Impala and then the love of her life. It resulted in the colorful and kaleidoscopic pop of this elven voiced singer slaloming, with rather impressive grace, between the world of Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star), Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab), Trish Keenan (Broadcast) and even Claudine Longet. But we mostly felt Parker’s expertise behind it… Six years later, Melody’s Echo Chamber finally released a sequel. Now separated from the leader of Tame Impala, Prochet has most of all made a spectacular recovery after a grave accident. We easily imagine these two events fueled her inspiration for this second album. For Bon voyage, she surrounded herself with new accomplices. Three members from the band Dunger, Swedes who love psychedelia but also progressive rock: Gustav Ejstes, Reine Fiske and Johan Holmegard. The result, rather short (barely more than 30 minutes), proves to be less monolithic than her first opus. But the sound textures it offers, more varied, never prevent the mistress of the house to hold her own course. The general mood is always enchanting and a tad mysterious. And her words are in English, mostly, but also in French and Norwegian. Melody Prochet thickens the musical personality that she crafted for herself. © Max Dembo/Qobuz
