Tyler Cole

On his own solo albums like We’re in Love & the World Is Ending (2017) and Existential Crisis Boy, Pt. 1 (2023), and in collaboration with acts like WILLOW and Weezer, Tyler Cole's embrace of alt-rock and R&B exemplifies the increasingly blurred lines between genres in early 21st century popular music. A native of Traverse City, Michigan, Cole grew up in Los Angeles and expressed interest in both music and filmmaking as a teenager. He ultimately kept a foot in each, starring as a homeless teen in the 2015 film Between the Miles and releasing his first album, Stranger, a year later. By the release of sophomore album We’re in Love & the World Is Ending in 2017, he was citing genre-crossing acts like Childish Gambino and Bon Iver as inspirations and garnering notice for tracks like “Blow Up Your TV!” and “Love at First Fight.” In 2019, Cole had a recurring role on the first season of the Netflix sitcom Family Reunion. A year later, he teamed up with longtime romantic partner and frequent collaborator WILLOW -- the daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith -- on the alt rock-inspired project THE ANXIETY. Bolstered by the TikTok popularity of the track “Meet Me at Our Spot,” Cole was tapped by Rivers Cuomo as a producer on Weezer’s SZNZ: Autumn EP in 2022. Existential Crisis Boy, Pt. 1, his first album for Def Jam Records and third overall, was released in 2023. It was supported by the bossa nova/trap-flavored single “Crying in My Car,” featuring verses from rapper Teezo Touchdown.
