Sub Urban
The American singer, composer and producer Daniel Virgil Maisonneuve, known to the public as Sub Urban, was born on October 22, 1999 in New Jersey to a Taiwanese mother and a Canadian father. He received musical encouragement and piano lessons at the age of six. His passion for music became so great that he dropped out of school at the age of 16 and moved to Los Angeles to start a professional career. He released his first two singles "Broken " (2017) and "Sick of You " (2019) with British producer DNMO. However, these did not help him make his breakthrough. But his persistence paid off when he suddenly went viral with the third single "Cradles". Hundreds of thousands of TikTok users used the unusual and dark mood of the song for their videos on the social media platform and the music video also enjoyed great popularity. His hit made it to number 1 in the Billboard alternative charts and was awarded gold records in the USA and Canada. On Sub Urban's debut EP Thrill Seeker (2020), which was released on the Warner Records label, he interpreted his version of the alternative genre as a poppy mix of electronic, hip-hop and rock. The most successful single was the song "Freak" (feat. Rei Ami). this was followed in 2021 by the singles "Inferno" with singer Bella Poarch and "Paramour", on which he was supported on vocals by Norwegian singer Aurora.
