Rozzi
A sultry-voiced, '90s hip-hop/soul-influenced singer and songwriter, Rozzi Crane began releasing music under her full name as a teenager in the late 2000s, including her 2009 eponymous debut. An endorsement from Maroon 5's Adam Levine eventually included label support, touring opportunities, her inclusion on The Hunger Games soundtrack (on Maroon 5's "Come Away to the Water"), and Levine's appearance on her 2015 EP Space, helping it to a Top Ten showing on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. She shortened her moniker to Rozzi for her major-label and full-length debut, 2018's Bad Together, and a subsequent pair of EPs included 2022's effervescent "Consequence" featuring Nile Rodgers.
Born Rosalind Elizabeth Crane and raised in San Francisco, Rozzi Crane began her quick rise as a neo-soul vocalist while still a teenager. In 2009, at the age of 17, she released a self-titled EP and later enrolled in the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. During her freshman year, some of her original songs were licensed for a Lifetime cable network movie, 2010's Sins of the Mother, and she earned spots touring as a backing vocalist for Don Henley and Sergio Mendes. In school, Crane met Jacques Brautbar of the power pop band Phantom Planet in a songwriting class, began a writing partnership with him, and eventually came to the attention of Maroon 5's Adam Levine, who signed her to his new 222 Records label in 2011. The following year, she was invited to sing on "Come Away to the Water" for The Hunger Games soundtrack with Maroon 5, a song written by Oscar winner Glen Hansard and produced by T-Bone Burnett. She toured with the group in 2013, playing large venues including Madison Square Garden and singing Christina Aguilera's part on the band's hit "Moves Like Jagger," something she continued to do in years that followed. She also performed live in support of acts including Gavin DeGraw in 2014, as well as headlining. The four-track Crane EP Space was released in early 2015, featuring Levine on the song "Painkiller." It reached number six on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart.
Shortening her professional name to Rozzi, she signed with Small Giant/Columbia Records for her 2018 full-length debut, Bad Together, which she supported with an opening slot on Betty Who's 2019 tour. The singer moved to BMG for 2021's Hymn for Tomorrow EP as well as 2022's Berry, a six-song set that included a collaboration with disco-funk legend Nile Rodgers. That year, she enjoyed streaming numbers in the tens of millions for "Who Do You Love," a collaboration with Arty, and she guested on the Hulu series Dollface, performing another single, "Best Friend Song," on an episode set at a women's music festival. The "Lemon Ice Mix" of the song was included on the soundtrack to the Kevin Hart vehicle Me Time.
