Alexander Jean

Indie pop duo Alexander Jean are not only musical collaborators but also life partners. After meeting in the early 2010s, they made their official debut with "Roses and Violets," which received a boost on Dancing with the Stars. That track landed on their debut EP, 2016's Head High, which was followed by another short-player, 2017's High Enough. Into the 2020s, the pair released a steady string of singles, including "Stampede" with Lindsey Stirling and "Drunk." Before joining forces, Mark Ballas (guitar/producer/songwriter) scored some minor acting roles and began starring on Dancing with the Stars, which nabbed him an Emmy nomination, while BC Jean (singer/songwriter) most notably wrote Beyoncé's "If I Were a Boy." The pair -- whose stage name derives from a combination of their middle names -- met and started collaborating on sweet guitar-based ditties in 2012. The first song they wrote together was "Head High," but it wasn't until a chance meeting with Stephan Moccio (co-writer of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball") that the seeds were planted for the duo's first major single, the romantic ballad "Roses and Violets." After the song was featured on Dancing with the Stars, it began to chart, paving the way for their debut EP, Head High, in 2016. A second EP, High Enough, arrived the next summer. Alexander Jean followed with a pair of high-profile collaborations: 2017's "We Three Kings" with American Idol's Casey Abrams and "Stampede" with violinist Lindsey Stirling. Almost a dozen singles carried them into the 2020s, including some Christmas tunes and the tracks "Dreams" and "Drunk."
