Loopy
Rapper/vocalist Loopy was born and raised in South Korea, but relocated to Los Angeles to start a music career. As founder of the MKIT RAIN label, Loopy brought together a roster of Korean rappers who had incorporated elements of North American rap production into their style. Along with shepherding the artists on his label, Loopy prolifically released music of his own, such as albums like 2020's NO FEAR.
Loopy was born Lee Jinyong in 1987 and spent his formative years living in Seoul. After relocating to Los Angeles as an adult, he spent some time trying different avenues with his musical identity before taking on the Loopy moniker around 2015 and launching the MKIT RAIN label a year later. He released mixtapes like 2015's King Loopy and 2017's ICE before participating as a contestant on the South Korean rap competition television program Show Me the Money 777. This exposure brought him to the attention of many new fans. His next releases were the 2018 mixtape QUESTIONS and a fully fleshed-out studio album, NO FEAR, which arrived in 2020 and featured a wide array of collaborators that included Paloalto, CHANGMO, pH-1, BLOO, Owen, and Yerin Baek.
