Andy Brown
b. 1975, New York City, New York, USA. Brown began playing guitar at the age of 15 and first played blues while living in Cincinnati. He performed semi-professionally while still in school. At the age of 20 he took an interest in jazz and in particular was aided by artists such as Cal Collins, Ron Enyard, Steve Schmidt and Kenny Poole, the latter becoming his mentor. Eventually, Brown moved back to his home town where he became well known on the local jazz scene, linking up with artists such as Howard Alden, Joe Cohn, Randy Sandke and Frank Tate. In 2003, Brown relocated to Chicago where he worked with many musicians, including Kurt Elling, Chris Foreman, Kimberly Gordon, Bobby Lewis, Hod O'Brien, Russ Phillips, Judy Roberts, and Petra van Nuis. Brown is a fluid player and sparkling improviser. Regular members of his trio are Jake Vinsel (bass) and Mike Schlick (drums).
