Joshua Karpeh

The American R&B singer and producer known as Cautious Clay was born Joshua Karpeh on January 30, 1993, in Cleveland, Ohio. He began learning music production by remixing beats for friends while studying at George Washing University. After graduating with a degree in International Affairs, he relocated to New York City and worked as a real estate agent before deciding to become a full-time musician. Preceded by the single "Cold War" (2017), Blood Type, his debut EP as Cautious Clay, came out in 2018 and was followed by a second extended play titled Resonance later that year. Table of Context, his third EP, saw the light in 2019 and featured singer-songwriter John Mayer on the songs "Carry Me Away" and "Swim Home," which was included in the soundtrack of the series 13 Reasons Why: Season 3. A few months later, his debut single "Cold War" was sampled by Taylor Swift on the track "London Boy" off of her seventh album, Lover. In the following years, Cautious Clay finally dropped his first full-length Deadpan Love (2021) and appeared in the original soundtrack of the 2022 Netflix film The School for Good and Evil with the song "Who Do You Think You Are."
