Simon Tedeschi

Australian pianist Simon Tedeschi gave his first performance of a Mozart piano concerto when he was nine. In the course of his early studies, he worked with Neta Maughan, Noretta Conci, and Peter Serkin. Tedeschi has received numerous prizes and honors, including the Legacy Award from the Creativity Foundation and the Centenary of Federation Medal from the prime minister of Australia. During a stay in the United States, Tedeschi played at Carnegie Hall, and won the New York Young Jewish Pianist Award. Returning to Australia in 2009, Tedeschi performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and gave concerts in many cities. His recordings include piano concertos by Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, and Leroy Anderson, and his jazz duo recording of Woodlands appeared on ABC Jazz. In the 1996 film Shine, Tedeschi's hands were filmed to represent those of pianist David Helfgott. Tedeschi has also recorded Tender Earth, an album of music by Australian jazz composers Mark Isaacs and Mike Nock. Tedeschi regularly records for ABC Classics.
