C'est LA version de cette ouvrage. Rostropovitch en propose la partition originale qui fut interdite par Staline et sa sinistre clique en 1936. L'esprit de Chostakovitch, et celui de Dostoïevski, est respecté à la lettre dans cette enregistrement qui réuni Galina Vishnevskaya et Nicolaï Gedda dans les rôles principaux. Avec de tels interprètes, cette fable décrivant une vision pour le moins pessimiste de la vie bénéficie d'un enregistrement d'une totale réussite. FH

Bernard Haitink, prophète en son pays

Le grand chef d’orchestre néerlandais nous a quittés le 21 octobre 2021 à l’âge vénérable de 92 ans. Reconnu par ses pairs et dans son pays dès sa jeunesse, Bernard Haitink accomplira la majeure partie de son immense carrière aux Pays-Bas, d’abord à la tête de l’Orchestre de la Radio néerlandaise puis du prestigieux Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam pendant vingt-sept ans, avec lequel il enregistrera de nombreux disques devenus légendaires.

Berlioz, la Fantastique en 10 versions

Véritable manifeste de l’émergence du romantisme français, la “Symphonie fantastique” de Berlioz aura marqué le XIXe siècle comme le “Sacre du printemps” de Stravinsky marquera le suivant. Créés à Paris, autrefois creuset mondial de l’effervescence artistique, ces deux chefs-d’œuvre ont fait basculer durablement le langage musical dans une autre dimension. Le 5 décembre 1830, l’œuvre révolutionnaire d’un Hector Berlioz de 27 ans émeut les musiciens présents dans la petite salle de l’ancien conservatoire, parmi lesquels Meyerbeer et Liszt, vivement impressionnés par l’extraordinaire audace de cet ouvrage présenté trois ans seulement après la mort de Beethoven.

Le retour en grâce de Wilhelm Backhaus

Géant de la musique classique allemande, Wilhelm Backhaus (1884-1969) est souvent apparu comme un rigoriste dénué de fantaisie. Son immense legs discographique pour Decca, encore assez rare à l’époque, est réédité aujourd’hui dans d’excellentes conditions. Il permet de réévaluer à la hausse une réputation trop souvent injuste. Backhaus nous apparaît singulièrement plus moderne qu’autrefois grâce à son respect du texte et à ses interprétations sans esbroufe qui cernent au mieux les compositeurs, depuis le premier enregistrement jamais réalisé d’un concerto, celui de Grieg, sévèrement abrégé en 1909, jusqu’à son dernier concert quelques jours avant sa mort.
