The recording of the "biggest battery of percussion west of Cape Canaveral" holds much promise: dozens of standard and exotic percussive instruments, high production values, and a mostly interesting choice of tunes. But Dick Schory, Bobby Christian, and Mike Simpson (all of whom arranged, with Skitch Henderson) are three of the least interesting percussion mavens. This album is strictly average, offering only three tracks of note: the quirky "Tiddley Winks" and the exotic "Baia" and "Typee." But the jacket, depicting Schory poking out from a pile of instruments, is a classic of LP art.
