Considéré, à juste titre, comme l’un des meilleurs (si ce n’est le meilleur) opéra de Mozart, Don Giovanni est la référence d’opéra du compositeur autrichien. Chanté dans la « langue de l’opéra » (en italien), Don Giovanni a trouvé dans la fin des années 1970 une interprétation qui a fait, et fait encore, office de réincarnation. Le rôle de Don Giovanni a accompagné Ruggero Raimondi tout au long de sa carrière. Le révélant en 1969, le rendant célèbre en 1979, l’emprisonnant dans les années 1980, l’obligeant même à ne plus le jouer dans les années 1990. Ruggero Raimondi était devenu Don Giovanni. Cet enregistrement date de 1979. C’est l’explosion pour Ruggero Raimondi. Le casting est de premier choix. C’est tout d’abord Lorin Maazel qui dirige l’Orchestre de l’Opéra de Paris accompagné, comme il se doit, de son chœur.
Sur scène, le rôle titre repose sur les larges épaules de l’italien Ruggero Raimondi, au sommet de sa gloire. Le disque ne rend malheureusement pas visible son talent d’acteur, très loin du baryton basse immobile en milieu de scène. Toutefois son interprétation laisse deviner une grande maîtrise du jeu sur scène, comme on peut l’entendre sur « Atto Primo: madamina, il catalogo è questo » (l'air du Catalogue). On retrouve la soprano Kiri Te Kanawa et la mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza dans un duo parfait sur « Là ci darem la mano », le baryton basse Jose van Dam ou encore la soprano Edda Moser.
Ce Don Giovanni est la référence. Musicalement, Lorin Maazel dose à merveille l’orchestre. « Atto Primo: Ouverture » témoigne de la maîtrise du chef. Au chant, Ruggero Raimondi est tout simplement parfait. Du « Deh veni alla finestra » au très puissant « Da qual tremore insolito », Ruggero Raimondi fait bien plus qu’interpréter le rôle, il l’incarne.

Descriptif de l'album
Considéré, à juste titre, comme l’un des meilleurs (si ce n’est le meilleur) opéra de Mozart, Don Giovanni est la référence d’opéra du compositeur autrichien. Chanté dans la « langue de l’opéra » (en italien), Don Giovanni a trouvé dans la fin des années 1970 une interprétation qui a fait, et fait encore, office de réincarnation. Le rôle de Don Giovanni a accompagné Ruggero Raimondi tout au long de sa carrière. Le révélant en 1969, le rendant célèbre en 1979, l’emprisonnant dans les années 1980, l’obligeant même à ne plus le jouer dans les années 1990. Ruggero Raimondi était devenu Don Giovanni. Cet enregistrement date de 1979. C’est l’explosion pour Ruggero Raimondi. Le casting est de premier choix. C’est tout d’abord Lorin Maazel qui dirige l’Orchestre de l’Opéra de Paris accompagné, comme il se doit, de son chœur.
Sur scène, le rôle titre repose sur les larges épaules de l’italien Ruggero Raimondi, au sommet de sa gloire. Le disque ne rend malheureusement pas visible son talent d’acteur, très loin du baryton basse immobile en milieu de scène. Toutefois son interprétation laisse deviner une grande maîtrise du jeu sur scène, comme on peut l’entendre sur « Atto Primo: madamina, il catalogo è questo » (l'air du Catalogue). On retrouve la soprano Kiri Te Kanawa et la mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza dans un duo parfait sur « Là ci darem la mano », le baryton basse Jose van Dam ou encore la soprano Edda Moser.
Ce Don Giovanni est la référence. Musicalement, Lorin Maazel dose à merveille l’orchestre. « Atto Primo: Ouverture » témoigne de la maîtrise du chef. Au chant, Ruggero Raimondi est tout simplement parfait. Du « Deh veni alla finestra » au très puissant « Da qual tremore insolito », Ruggero Raimondi fait bien plus qu’interpréter le rôle, il l’incarne.
