En un peu plus d’une décennie, Vampire Weekend a pris son temps. Après l’éponyme Vampire Weekend (2008), Contra (2010) et Modern Vampires of the City (2013), la bande d’Ezra Koenig sort enfin d’un gros silence de six années ponctuées par le départ du très influent Rostam Batmanglij, qui a sorti en solo l’excellent Half-Light en 2017… Dernier album studio en date, Modern Vampires of the City était une sacrée évolution dans la vie du combo new-yorkais. Les touches ethniques très Talking Heads avaient disparu au profit d’une pop plus léchée, tant dans ses mélodies et ses harmonies que dans ses sons.

Désormais cerveau quasi solitaire du groupe, Koenig, qui a quitté NY pour LA, confirme avec Father of the Bride sa boulimie stylistique. Son fil conducteur reste évidemment très pop mais chacune des 18 chansons offre un paysage différent. Il y a de tout dans ce disque copieux. Du Beatles, Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, Paul Simon, Wilco, Grateful Dead et mille autres influences. Même côté invités, Vampire Weekend fait dans le 360° avec, entre autres, la pedal steel et la guitare impressionniste de Greg Leisz, la voix de Danielle Haim d’HAIM, la guitare de Dave Longstreth des Dirty Projectors, Steve Lacy de The Internet et même Rostam, rentré au bercail sur deux titres. Au point qu’au fil des écoutes, on se demande si Ezra Koenig ne signe pas ici son “double blanc” (le plus éclectique des disques des Beatles) à lui tout seul… © Marc Zisman/Qobuz

Objectif Lune : The Dark Side of the Moon

Album phare dans la discographie de Pink Floyd, “The Dark Side of the Moon” est le fruit d’une élaboration relativement lente qui remonte pratiquement à 1968. “A Saucerful of Secrets” (le morceau phare de l’album éponyme) en est, pour Nick Mason, le point de départ. Derrière, “Ummagumma” laissait s’exprimer des personnalités qu’il allait falloir amalgamer pour décrocher la timbale. Pink Floyd poursuivit sa quête du disque idéal avec “Meddle”, sur lequel le groupe accentuait sa maîtrise du travail du studio, et “Atom Heart Mother”, avant d’atteindre le nirvana avec “The Dark Side of the Moon”, dont la perfection ne s’est jamais érodée.

Les Black Keys en 10 chansons

Dès 2001, les Black Keys ont rappelé à la Terre entière d’où venait vraiment le blues, virant tout gras apparent et solos superflus. Du sauvage, du brutal, du minimaliste et du cru joué seulement à deux. Un style unique que Dan Auerbach et Patrick Carney ont réussi à faire évoluer sur deux décennies sans jamais vendre leur âme au diable, invariablement posté en embuscade au carrefour du delta du Mississippi.
