Figueroa

Amon Tobin is well-known for his experimental use of electronics, either under his own name or side projects, but as Figueroa, Tobin has stepped into the world of dreamy psych-folk, offering an intriguing twist on the whole genre with the release of 2020's The World as We Know It. Conceived around 2010, Tobin relocated to a secluded cabin in the woods in California to record his own take on the almost cliched "psych-folk" album. Instead of using real instruments, Tobin meticulously programmed picking phrases and chords and played them back on the computer. After putting the recordings away, he came across them almost ten years later and was interested in reworking them for other artists to perform. Contacting producer Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down) to see if she could recommend any artists who would be willing to take them on, she immediately urged Tobin to release them himself. Massy brought Tobin into the studios to re-record the vocals and arrange the tracks into their otherworldly sound. The resulting album, The World as We Know It, was released in mid-2020 and added another unique bow to Tobin's already eclectic back catalog of work.
