Nachdem Mumford & Sons 2013 ihre internationale Tournee rund um ihr Bestseller-Album Babel beendet hatten, kündigten sie eine längere Schaffenspause an. Erst 2015 meldete sich die Gruppe wieder zurück – und in der Zwischenzeit hatten zahlreiche Bands den Mumford-Folksound aufgegriffen und nachgeahmt. So wendet sich die Band auf ihrem dritten Album Wilder Mind also von dem akustischen Folkpop ab, mit dem sie bekannt wurde, und fährt E-Gitarren und Keyboards auf. Mit Unterstützung von Produzent James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, HAIM) werden Mumford & Sons also zur modernen Rock-Gruppe – wobei unter der veränderten Oberfläche noch dasselbe Songwriter-Herz schlägt, wie unter anderem die Singles "Believe" und "Snake Eyes" zeigen.
