The great musician Yusef Lateef's Atlantic albums tend to be a little erratic; in addition to creative improvised music, his performances were open to the influences of the R&B, soul, and pop music of the period. Lateef plays flutes on three of the four pieces (switching to tenor on "Live Humble"), utilizes the vocal group the Sweet Inspirations on two of the pieces (including the exotic "A Long Time Ago"), and interacts with a string quartet on "Chandra," while "Eboness" is played with a basic quartet. The well-intentioned music has its moments of interest but is not all that memorable as a whole.
